What is the UTS Avoiding Plagiarism website?

Providing academic integrity information to students is of paramount importance as the issue of misconduct in the form of plagiarism has been posing various misadventures to many vulnerable students. In view of this, UTS HELPS, with the help of various faculty members, developed an easily accessible interactive learning tool that enhances students’ awareness of academic integrity in discipline-specific content.

 

Notable features

  • The website is consisted of various modules (10) that suit different faculty content.
  • Integration to UTSOnline: the quiz result can be pushed to Grade Centre in UTSOnline subject site.
  • The website employs responsive design for accessibility and real-time feedback for interactivity.
  • Students can download and email their quiz result as a PDF document as proof of attempt or attainment.

 

The website components

It comprises of three scaffolded sections:

  • information on academic and professional integrity and examples;
  • tutorials on how to paraphrase, summarise, quote and reference; and
  • a quiz: randomised questions to test students’ understanding of academic (and professional) integrity.
