An institution or individual instructor can vastly increase their impact through the creation of a top-notch massive open online course (MOOC). But what’s the best way to approach making such a course?  This workshop describes one instructor’s personal experience in creating what is now widely recognised as the world’s largest MOOC: Learning How to LearnPowerful Mental Tools to Help You Master Tough Subjects. We will cover the key elements behind the making of high quality educational videos for MOOCs, including scripting, filming, editing, the use of metaphor, the importance of motion, the value of neurally encoding  key concepts; and why humour is so critically important in online learning.
