In the move to remote teaching, the question of how to teach and assess practical work has been a particular challenge for many disciplines across the University. Please join Nina Smith (DAB) and  Gavin Paul (FEIT) who will share their experiences, strategies and intrigues as they deliver practical work in two diverse disciplines to students in the remote learning environment.

Zoom link will be provided in the confirmation email.

Panel

Nina Smith is a UTS Lecturer and industry professional in dressmaking and design who has had the challenge of moving her subjects in sewing and pattern-making online. Nina will share how she has had to employ all her creativity and resourcefulness to do this, and what surprises she has met along the way.

Gavin Paul is Senior Lecturer in the School of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering who coordinates/teaches 41013 Robotics and 48622 Mechatronics 1. Both subjects incorporate hands-on, practice-based learning. Gavin will share his practice of teaching and assessing practical work online around the provocation: When assessing practical work online, how can we be sure our students have actually done the work? For an example of Gavin’s work, see 20200401 Mx1 – Marking Labs Guide (Assignment 1 Part A)
