UTS community members are invited to the inaugural evaluation ‘Fishbowl’ event, hosted by the Social Impact team at the UTS Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion. Fishbowl is part of the Social Impact team’s Community of Practice series, aimed at supporting UTS evaluations and building networks across the organisation. The organiser, Dr Robert Carr says Fishbowl is an informal lunchtime discussion to hear all about evaluation projects being undertaken at UTS.
“The series is solutions-focused, and an opportunity to hear from participants about evaluation methods, tools and opportunities.”
“We welcome all members of the UTS community to participate who may be keen to learn about, engage and offer evaluation knowledge.”
About Fishbowl #1
This first Fishbowl event is aimed at understanding the diversity of evaluations being undertaken at UTS, and establishing the Community of Practice.
Carr says “Over time, our aim is to build links between common evaluation ‘issues’ and tap into support from evaluators and subject experts in our community.”
If you’d like to join this online discussion, please RVSP by emailing robert.carr-1@uts.edu.au.
Help shape fishbowls
For those keen to join our Community of Practice and shape the first Fishbowl session, it would assist greatly if you sent an email to robert.carr-1@uts.edu.au outlining:
- A short description of the evaluation work you are engaged with
- Specific aspects of your evaluation work in need of ‘troubleshooting’
- How this Community of Practice could benefit you most
Not only for evaluators, the event is for anyone from UTS to drop in and listen to the discussion.
A diverse community of practice
Evaluation is highly relevant to researchers, teaching staff, program teams, student development, strategic planning and professional development at all levels.
Evaluation often incorporates a diverse range of research methods, tools and skills.
Dr Carr says “Having some knowledge of evaluation practice allows us to see how our work and learning contributes to social impact in diverse ways…An evaluation Community of Practice will help participants explore that diversity within the UTS community and build a stronger network around a wide range of skills and knowledges.”
