Follow these steps to create and present your debut Mentimeter presentation and learn how to engage your audience.
Log into Mentimeter. On your Home screen, click on ‘+ New Menti’ to make a new presentation or ‘+ New survey’ for an asynchronous activity. Mentimeter will directly bring you to the editing screen for your slide deck. You can enter a title for your presentation in the upper left corner.
You can also create a new folder by clicking on ‘+New folder’ and organize your presentations by folders.
To notify your audience about Mentimeter privacy notice and terms of use you can copy ‘UTS User Documents’ template from the ‘Shared templates’ folder in your Mentimeter dashboard and make it available to your audience at the beginning of your presentation. When you click ‘Add to my presentation’ the shared ‘UTS User Documents’ will be copied into your ‘My presentations’ folder; then you can open it and copy to any of your presentations. Open your presentation to check if ‘UTS User Documents’ has been successfully copied.
Before adding more contents, change the theme of your presentation from the ‘Theme’ menu by selecting ‘UTS Branding’ theme.
Now you are ready to add content or questions on your presentation slides. To add any question, first select the question type from ‘Popular question types’ or ‘Advanced question’ menu under the ‘Type’ tab. After you select the question type you will be prompted to enter the content for the question under the ‘Content’ tab. Depending on your selected question type several result display settings can be adjusted. Finally, you can adjust the behaviour for each slide in the ‘Customisation’ tab.
You can use a combination of text, image or mathematical expressions for the question content.
There is no Undo or Save button – your presentation is automatically saved.
To add another slide simply click on ‘+Add slide’ and you can add as many slides as you wish in your presentation. You can click and drag the slides to change the order of slides on the slide overview pane.
If you want to create a quiz competition, then choose between the ‘Select Answer’ or ‘Type Answer’ question types under the ‘Quiz Competition’ menu. The ‘Select Answer’ can be configured as multiple choice or multiple answer question by selecting how many answers are correct. The ‘Type Answer’ is essentially a fill-in-the-blank question type where you can set multiple correct answers.
Additionally, you will need to individually specify for each slide how much time is allowed to answer a question and whether correct answers that were given faster will be rewarded with more points. If accuracy is important over speed, then do not use this option as it creates a time pressure on students.
You also have the option to add a ‘leaderboard’ after a quiz question so participants can see the highest scores of the quiz and there will be a sense of competition and fun. Mentimeter quiz can be used as a formative quiz as summative assessment tasks cannot be graded using Mentimeter.
Mentimeter allows you to create content slides without any interactive elements which can be useful when you need to provide the context before asking questions. This way you will not need to leave your Mentimeter presentation to switch to another presentation platform.
It is always important to familiarise yourself with the settings and content of your presentation before you present to avoid any surprising presentation behaviour during a live presentation.
Make sure to review and adjust the presentation settings before you present. You can access the presentation settings by clicking on the ‘Settings’ button on the top right-hand corner. Here you can adjust settings for navigation, interaction, moderation and comments from audience for your presentation.
If you want to engage in discussion with your audience on each question, use Presenter pace. If you want to discuss at the end of a set of questions. use Audience pace. Quiz is always presented in Presenter pace.
Before you present, you will need to share the presentation with your audience to allow them to participate and interact with your presentation. To do this, click on Share and select the Participation tab to share a Mentimeter code, web link or QR code with your audience.
