Hot Topic Theme: Work Integrated Learning and External Partnerships
- How can we support students’ WIL experiences?
- What are our roles and responsibilities?
- How can we assess students’ preparedness to learn these professional practice skills such as being ethical, responsible, communicative or culturally appropriate?
Learning from experiences about self and one’s professionalism is quite different to learning about theories and facts. Assessment for such learning is one of the biggest challenges in WIL. WIL is learning that cannot happen from textbooks because the purpose of WIL is to learn to practise. WIL is about applying disciplinary knowledge and skills in socio-cultural contexts and developing professional practice skills.
In this event we will explore ways that you can prepare students for WIL using powerful assessment strategies in the foundational, developing and professional context of their WIL journey, from a subject to a programmatic context. We hope to address:
- What do you assess and when?
- Who does the assessing and when?
Please come with your ideas, your practices and your questions ready to share and consider in this workshop event.
What are Hot Topics?
The Teaching and Curriculum Team from IML invites you to participate in the explorations of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and external partnerships, the final topic in the Hot Topics series.
Be part of the conversation and share with us how you use WIL as a vehicle to engage in public and private sector and community partnerships, design real-world relevant courses, develop public-good professionalism and strengthen graduate employability.
