The way you submit grades at the end of session is changing.
From October 2024, GradesPlus replaces the Canvas Admin Tool (CAT) for all subjects. This tool makes it easier to submit grades and finalise student results faster. Once it’s enabled for your subject, you can submit all student results – including Authority to Vary Results (AVRs) – from one screen in Canvas.
What does this mean for me?
Once GradesPlus is enabled in your subject, you won’t use the Canvas Admin Tool (CAT) to submit student results. If your subject already uses GradesPlus, there will be no change to how you submit grades.
You’ll receive an email letting you know when GradesPlus is enabled in your Canvas site. GradesPlus will automatically appear in the navigation menu of your subject site. You can also check when GradesPlus will be enabled for your teaching session.
Your 7-step guide to submitting grades with GradesPlus
You’ll find a full version of the following process, with useful visuals, in our comprehensive guide to submitting results with GradesPlus.
- As usual, in Canvas Gradebook, check that your assignment marks and weighting are correct and the Total column is displaying the correct grade for each student. Enter any override grades (numerical) in the Override column if needed.
- Select GradesPlus in your subject’s navigation menu. You should see the status ‘Ready to Submit’ next to each student.
- Optional: enter any exception grades (e.g. W, Q) by selecting a student and then the letter grade in the Change Exception Grade menu.
- When you’re ready to submit results, select all students using the checkbox at the top of the screen.
- You’ll see a preview of what you’re about to submit, in case you want to make one last check.
- Select ‘Submit grades’
- Congratulations, you’ve submitted your subject results! In GradesPlus, you’ll see each student’s status changed to ‘Submitted’ when you refresh after a couple of minutes.
If a student’s status looks incorrect, or you can’t submit results for a student, check our guidance on troubleshooting submission errors.
If you need to submit AVRs after the results deadline, follow our guide to submitting AVRs in GradesPlus.
