Our 2017 Learner Experience (LX) Grant recipients have now successfully implemented a new learner experience in the classroom. Join us in the LX.lab and hear from your UTS academic colleagues. Check out what we’ve got on for day 1 of 3 of the LX Grant Showcase below:

Session 1: 10:30 – 10:50am

A practical way to encourage students to reflect on the experience of their first year of academic study in Communications and provide live feedback to staff (as well as allow staff to provide some additional live context)

In this study we used research based evidence and a fun group activity to encourage students to air and then release their experiences at the end of their first year Communications degree. The practice began in Digital Literacies 54001, and has since been repeated in 2018 with a slight variation in its timing in relation to the final assignment.

Presenters: Liz Giuffre, Chris Comerford and Ben Abraham

Session 2: 10:55 – 11:15am

Introducing collaborative activities to encourage student learning

Collaborative activities were integrated into a first-year science subject (block-mode) during lecture times, to encourage students to drive their own learning. These activities were developed in conjunction with experienced U:PASS leaders, who identified common subject sticking points for students. The developed activities encouraged students to do their own research on a topic, and to share their findings with the class.

Presenters: Alex Thomson & Melanie Purdy

Session 3: 11:20 – 11:40am

Development, implementation and sustainability of the RIPE (Reflective Interprofessional Education) Model to enhance interprofessional collaboration

A novel of cross-disciplinary educational model of learning utilising medium and high fidelity manikins and standardised patients.

Presenters: Cherie Lucas, Tamara Power, Carolyn Hayes, Caleb Ferguson
