2:30 pm - 4:00 pm - LX.lab CB06.04.020
The short: If you think horse racing is kind of lame and planes are awesome, you’re in luck! Come along to the inaugural Aeronautical Annual LX.lab UnMelbourne Cup. Afternoon tea, festivities, and a paper plane competition for UTS staff! Please register below.
The long: Humanity, subjugated by gravity for millennia, finally broke free of its Newtonian shackles in 1903. Today a Boeing 747, inheritor of the Promethean mantle passed down from the Wright brothers’ fateful first flight, can travel at 956km/hour. A horse, by comparison, can only muster a paltry 88 in all its Bronze Age decrepitude.
Why then, does the nation stop once a year to marvel at the languid cantering of these four-legged laggards, when we hold the means to traverse the troposphere? Why crawl along the Earth’s surface, when you can soar through her majestic skies?
In recognition of this obvious misguidedness, the LX.lab is hosting our inaugural UnMelbourne extravaganza. Instead of watching horses run in a circle, we’ll instead honour the spirit of competition by propelling mighty aeronautical craft of our own design – elegant vessels made of cellulose and dreams.
That’s right, we’re holding a paper plane competition.
The UnMelbourne Cup will feature afternoon tea, festivities, the competition, and prizes. It runs from 14:30 – 16:00. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history!
